Top Ten Trainers: Five Ten Impact Karver

Five Ten shoes have recently introduced a women’s version of their ever popular MTB shoes. Available at CRC from ultra-tiny size 3 (35.5) up to size 7.5 (41.5), these shoes are a must for any XC or DH rider who uses flat pedals. The soles are made from super grippy Stealth rubber which make sure your feet stay on the pedals when you are going foot-out-flat-out.

Looking at their design, I was a bit disappointed that the usual purple/pinky colour scheme was used for a ladies MTB shoe, but considering that the shoes will most likely get so mucky that it wont be seen its not much of an issue. Two girls from my club have these, and have only good things to say about them, especially in that they protect your ankle from pedal-bashing.

Good call on Five Ten for introducing these (especially in the small sizes for girls like me!). These are a MUST for any flat pedal MTBer. Available from CRC: www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=33183

Cheapness Alert! Sombrio Cloud Jersey

Just came across this on Wiggle: www.tinyurl.com/lcsg5k

A Sombrio Cloud jersey for only 15 pounds (free shipping to UK and Ireland)!!! I was a bit unsure about this top but then found this review on Muddbunnies (www.tinyurl.com/mh93xj) and it looks gorgeous on one of their club members:

I have a couple of Sombrio tops and can vouch for their durability and great sizing, especially over armour. Get it while you can!

Might Be Nice On 1 – Kona Circle Jersey

Ok, so I have decided to have a category for clothes that *might* be nice on, but because of poor photography and/or lack of actual tangilble contact with the garment I cant decide whether it is gick or slick. Take this Kona Circle Jersey (www.konaworld.com):

I love Kona clothes. I think they do great sizing and I have bought loads of their stuff before. Their freeridey tops (to be reviewed) are great, and dont fall apart even after 100,000 super  mucky washes. This top has polka dots (woo) but shit-brown stripes (boo), but I have a feeling that it will be super-pretty on (*cough* maybe Kona would like to send me one to try on *cough*)

Beautiful Bobbin: Bobbin Bicycles UK

One of the only things that bothers me about cycling is the state of my hair afterwards. I always wear a helmet (one broken collarbone later taught me my lesson!) and it tends to end up in a frizzy-but-flat windblown mess a la Bridget Jones:

Anyhoo, tis a a neccessary evil, but I think many girls are put off wearing a helmet because of the ugly styrofoam blocks that are sold as ‘cycle helmets’:

Bobbin Bicycles have a great range of helmets that are an alternative to the sexy styrofoam block. Their Yakkay helmet comes with lots of different covers which transform an ordinary helmet into something you are proud to show off through the city streets:

They also do a gorgeous rain cap for non-helmet wearers:
